The National Forage & Grassland Curriculum project was the result of funding through the USDA Challenge Grant Program and support from the cooperating institution faculty and staff. Grant funding provided the initial impetus and encouragement for the substantial cost-sharing that occurred at the participating institutions.
The USDA Challenge Grant program was initiated in Fiscal Year 1990 to improve the food and agricultural sciences higher education system. In 1995, 130 proposals were submitted representing requests of more than $13.3 million. Slightly more than $4.2 million was available to support projects. This project was funded in 1995 as a three year project.
Information on recently funded projects is available throught the CSREES web site.
