In addition to seeding time, the choice of method will be affected by the steepness of the field and the erodability of the soil. Since soils that occur in Land Capability Classes IIIe, IV, and above (see Chapter 27 and Chapter 28) generally present severe erosion hazards when tilled conventionally, new tall fescue stands should be established by no-till methods on these steep soils.
