While mixing of continental and Mediterranean tall fescue cultivars is sometimes practiced, they should generally be used in separate pastures. The environment of a site generally will be either Mediterranean or continental in type, so persistence and production will be optimized by matching the fescue type with the environment. It is also difficult to achieve or maintain a target balance between the two types because one tends to dominate the other during establishment, and they have different seasonal grazing management requirements.
